Potlatch

Today was our culminating event for the study of Native Americans that we have been involved in for the past 5 weeks!  We had Reader's Theater in our classrooms, we had singing and dance performances in the gym, and most of all we had students who were excited about their learning, and proud of the work they had done!  All students were very excited about this event and worked to make sure that their work was a polished as it could be.  Students really showed their mastery of this content as they explained all of the artifacts they had created over the course of this unit.  It was also terrific to see all of you!  In our class every student had someone in attendance and that sort of family involvement is so important for learning.  I would like to end by acknowledging the work of everyone who made this unit work; the second and third grade teachers collaborated on the planning of this unit, Arlyn worked to create multimedia art with the second grade, and Pam Dunkling and Mike Sherwin integrated our study into their lessons which precipitated the fantastic singing and dance performances during this celebration, and finally I wish to thank all of the students who worked hard throughout this unit to increase their understanding of the clothing, food, shelter, and natural resources of the Natives of North America.
